Hells Gate & Wai Ora Spa, Rotorua, is New Zealand’s unique geothermal, cultural and health & spa experience.
Home to New Zealand’s most active geothermal field, showcasing a large variety of volcanic features including exploding waters, steaming fumaroles, pools of boiling mud, the only accessible mud volcano and the largest hot waterfall in the Southern Hemisphere.
Set amongst the active geothermal reserve is the Wai Ora Spa and Wellness Centre - where visitors can experience the unique geothermal muds and sulphurous geothermal waters in privacy in the traditionally Maori-themed environment. Maori have been bathing in the geothermal muds and sulphurous waters for over 700 years for healing.
Each mud bath at Hells Gate contains in excess of 100kgs of the finest geothermal mud in both a suspended and solid form. The silky mud is smoothed over the skin leaving it very clean and soft to touch.
After taking a mud bath, enter the pure sulphurous spas, both with their own hot water falls to relax and revitalize your mind, body and soul.
A cornerstone of the uniquely New Zealand Mud Spa experience is the traditional Wai Ora massage. This massage regime is based on the concepts of Miri Miri, the traditional Maori massage regime that has been practiced for hundreds of years. The massage, undertaken by trained Maori staff, is available as a half hour or a full one-hour package between the hours of 8.30am to 8.30pm daily.
Pamper yourself with a mud facial, or a full body scrub or combine any of the services available at Hells Gate.
Recently opened at Hells Gate is a new Carving Workshop where skilled artisan Benjie Heta is proud to display and show FIT how to carve. Guests can even carve their own pieces. Opposite this is the new corn and egg cooking pools which creates a unique tasting food sensation for guests to purchase.
